Why I Love Blogging

I haven’t written a blog on WordPress for quite some time. In August, I started writing for a blog called The Odyssey, and I’ve been quite wrapped up in that over the past few months. While I have neglected this blog a bit in the process, I’ve learned a lot through my recent blogging endeavors.

For starters, The Odyssey isn’t like other blogs. I’m not told what to write about – instead, I’m given complete freedom to write about anything I want, when I want (of course, as long as I meet my weekly publishing deadline). I’m so fortunate to be a part of such an amazing blogging team both within my collegiate community at Penn State and among all Odyssey bloggers nationwide.

Being able to write about what I want for such reputable blog platform has allowed me to share my voice with thousands of people… Literally. I wrote a post about mozzarella sticks and more than 100k people shared it. I’m able to write a blog and see it talked about across several social media platforms, which is one of the greatest feelings in the world. I take such pride knowing that someone somewhere is reading what I wrote and thinking, “Yeah, I feel this way too” or “I can totally relate to this” or something along those lines. It’s extremely empowering and it has given me a completely new outlook on the entire blogging community as a whole.

But I don’t love blogging just for the shares or for the slight ego boost that often results from it (although both are often inevitable). I love blogging because it allows me to share my thoughts, feelings, emotions, and even humor with the entire world. It enables me to start conversations and get people thinking. Blogging makes me feel like even from behind a computer screen, I can make a difference. Whether it’s just making someone smile while scrolling through his or her newsfeed, or making someone question the way he or she looks at the world, I have power – power that has the potential to do great things. It’s through my experience writing for The Odyssey that I have truly discovered the potential power and influence of my blogs, which is something I’m very grateful for.

In the midst of what seems to be my personal blog’s hiatus, feel free to check out my Odyssey blogs here!
